A Well-Oiled Machine 2014 marks the debut of the Lexus RC F in the GT500 class of the Japanese Super GT racing series. This R/C model assembly kit recreates one entry with the car in a bright livery with the engine oil brand SUSTINA from the Japanese service station ENEOS as the centerpiece sponsor. Early results for the race car have been encouraging, as it secured creditable second and third podium places in the first two races of the season. The model recreates the car’s stirring form in polycarbonate, capturing details such as the German Touring Car Championship (DTM)-esque fender-top ridges and Lexus’ trademark “spindle grille”. Separate parts recreate the car’s unique door mirrors and wing. The vibrant orange so prominent in the livery can be created using Tamiya’s PS-62 Pure orange spray paint color, while decals are included to depict the numerous markings. It is based upon the hi-spec TB-04 chassis, and fitted with 12-spoke wheels and 24mm-width racing slick tires. |
The TB-04: Efficient Shaft Driven 4WD with Excellent Handling The TB-04 is an efficient shaft-driven 4WD touring car chassis which also offers its drivers crisp handling, as its main frame has a low center of gravity while reducing contact with the track surface to a minimum. The layout places the battery pack longitudinally on the right with the motor horizontally in the left-rear for superior stability during acceleration. 4-wheel double wishbone suspension employs CVA oil dampers, with an inboard front suspension (IFS) setup. The long steering tie-rod system refined on the TRF417 chassis provides optimized Ackerman steering for on-road racing, while an aluminum propeller shaft and full ball bearings ensure smooth transmission of power, along with front and rear gear differential units. |
